Fintech marketing: why trust starts on the street
Physical presence builds the trust that fintech and crypto brands need. See how brand activations can do that in person.
Every summer, the cities change. The regulars disappear. For a few weeks, the streets of Amsterdam, Berlin, and Paris belong to someone else entirely: tourists, travellers, and people who are finally, fully, somewhere they chose to be.
Most brands treat this as a quiet period. Switch the campaigns off, wait for September. But the audience hasn’t gone away. They’ve just moved.
The brands that understand this are the ones that follow them.
The logic behind summer holiday advertising is simple. Your target audience has a postcode, but they don’t stay in it. A skincare brand targeting young professionals in Stockholm knows where they live. But in July, a significant chunk of them are on a beach in Spain, in a square in Lisbon, or wandering the old town in Cyprus.
Advertising at home while your audience is abroad is an expensive way to miss them. Street marketing in holiday destinations flips the equation. Instead of waiting for people to come back, you meet them exactly where they are, when they are most open, most present, and, research tends to agree, most willing to spend.
Sol de Janeiro wanted to reach people in the mood their brand was made for. We activated in Amsterdam during peak summer, catching the city at its most tourist-heavy and sun-soaked. The campaign met people mid-stride, in the kind of light and energy that makes you actually stop and look.
In Lisbon, we ran a beach-facing campaign for 1inch, the decentralized finance platform that lets people trade crypto directly from their own wallets. The placement was literal: reaching an audience that was physically at the coast, not commuting past a billboard on the way to a desk. The format travelled to the audience rather than waiting for the audience to find it.
For JUNI in Cyprus, the same principle applied in a different setting. A holiday destination where foot traffic is concentrated, unhurried, and receptive. The kind of environment where a well-placed campaign gets seen more than once by the same person.
Three different brands, three different destinations. The strategy was the same each time: go where the people are.
Holiday destinations reward formats that are immediate and visual. Wild posting works because it saturates the areas where people walk and stop. Billboards work in high-footfall zones near beaches, promenades, and old town centres. Activations work because people on holiday have time, and time is what turns a passing glance into a real interaction.
Mobility matters too. People on holiday move differently than people on their way to work. They take the long route, stop twice at the same corner, and sit outside for an hour. A good placement gets seen more than once by the same person without them even noticing.
The brands that show up well during summer are the ones that planned for it rather than paused through it. The audience is there. The streets are there. The only question is whether your brand is.
